Since the reduction of the nominal range to 7 nautical miles in February 1999, according to the current criteria in this respect, it is no longer formally a lighthouse, but it is still called this. The observation tower with light is open to visitors. In 1903 a balneological plant was built in Sopot, which existed until World War II. After the war, the building was taken over by the city. There was a bath room there. In 1956, the building was handed over to the Rheumatology Hospital. When in 1975 the hospital boiler room was modernized, a very oppressive smoky chimney had become unnecessary. It was rebuilt and a light source was placed on it. Initially, this light was not considered a lighthouse due to the small range (5 nautical miles), only after the change of the optical-light device and obtaining a nominal light range of over 17 Mm, became a lighthouse. Currently, the light has a nominal range of 7 nautical miles and is formally no longer included in Polish lighthouses.
